LIES AND SOLACE Free This Week!

Book one in my Love at Solace Lake series, LIES AND SOLACE, is free until May 31. Hurry and get your copy!

Series Blurb:
Love is worth the risk…

When their grandfather dies, the Lindquist sisters, Harper, Scarlet and Maggie, inherit the northern Minnesota fishing lodge that had been in their family for three generations. The inheritance is bittersweet. They were raised at the lodge by their grandparents. The natural beauty of the place hasn’t changed, but the building itself is crumbling and desperately in need of repair. The lodge also reminds them of what they lost. Twenty-two years previously, their parents died there in what was ruled a murder/suicide.

As the sisters struggle to breathe new life into the failing lodge, old fears and questions rise to the surface even as new love presents itself. Why did their father murder their mother? What truths did their grandparents keep from them? The sisters must fight to keep the wounds of the past from putting their futures, and their fledgling relationships, in jeopardy.

Blurb for Lies and Solace:
She can’t live with one more lie. He can’t tell the truth.

Harper Lindquist is convinced she’s found the answer to her financial prayers. Unless she pours cash into crumbling Solace Lake Lodge, she’ll lose her family’s legacy. Her would-be savior arrives in the middle of a Minnesota blizzard and she’s determined to prove to her reluctant, and trapped, financier the lodge is a sound investment. But Harper isn’t completely honest with him. And she has no idea the lake is hiding secrets of its own.

Ethan James is a liar, but his money is very real. He isn’t convinced a broken-down inn is a smart investment opportunity. But the more he understands Harper’s dreams and desires, the more he wants to be the man to make them come true. The trauma in both their pasts means neither can fully trust the other. They must find the courage to love, to trust, and to accept, or yesterday’s sorrows will keep them apart.

Excerpt:

As she stared into his dark eyes she realized how much she trusted him, and relied on him. That was something rare for her. The only people she trusted as much were her sisters.

I’m in love with him.

The thought blasted through her brain with the force of a tsunami. The tension of the last few weeks, the insecurity, the mistrust, the fear, slipped easily from her shoulders. For the first time, her mind was clear. She was in love with Ethan and she didn’t want to wait anymore. She wanted him. She wanted him to be her first, her last.

Finding courage she didn’t know she possessed, Harper slid off the stool and walked around the island. She plucked the wine glass from his hand and set it on the counter, then placed his hand on her breast. “Make love with me, Ethan.”

A fire lit in his eyes, telling her he wanted her, too. But there was a question there, a hesitation. “Are you sure?”

She’d never been more sure of anything in her life. “Yes.”

“Harper—”

“Shhh. Let’s not talk anymore.” She placed one finger over his lips, then stood on her tiptoes and kissed him.

Ethan’s reaction was lightning swift. He wrapped his arms around her and brought her close, his mouth descending on hers in a wild, warm kiss. Their tongues tangled, slid over each other. She’d missed his touch, his taste. She moaned, and in the sound she heard thirty-two years of longing.

For this. For him.

An Excerpt from Bedazzled:

The chatter in the elevator lightened her mood immediately, reminding Keeli of all the people who had started with only a few dollars and a dream. In many cases, they had made it without knowing the language or customs of their adopted country. By comparison, she had many advantages and instantly felt better about her choice, more confident about moving forward on her own. Mr. Weinberg let her take many of her pieces with her when she left his employ. There had been no severance check, of course, but the ready inventory was a gift. Keeli let the renewed confidence surge through her body, standing straight and looking ahead. Watching her step, careful not to bump anyone with her parcel, Keeli stepped into the divide and moved toward the back.

That was the moment she saw HIM. He was the best thing – by far – about working in this building. She was standing face to face with the virile, gorgeous, sexy man she saw in the elevator regularly. Well, almost face-to-face since he was at least 4 or 5 inches taller than her statuesque 5’10”.

He was what she would miss most about this job – these random opportunities to ride the elevator and watch him, getting to stand close, allowing her imagination to run wild with fantasies – all starring him, of course.

Most of the time, he hid mysteriously behind a pair of Wayfarers, but the rain today afforded Keeli a chance to admire the intelligence and concentration in his azure eyes. He stood with his shoulders back, head towering over everyone’s. Looking up, Keeli locked eyes with his, his mouth lifting in a half smile. Keeli shyly dropped her head as a blush rose to her cheeks and her heart sped up. She knew the smile was just politeness. She wanted so much more. She wanted him to notice her the way she noticed him, feel about her as she did about him. If only he had the same visceral reaction that Keeli had to him, perhaps he would have spoken to her by now. She could not overcome her shyness to initiate a conversation, but if he longed for her as she did him…obviously, he was not interested. Now she would never see him again. Her disappointment was way out of proportion; he was a stranger. But he had this pull on her. Instead of thinking of him as a stranger, she thought of him as hers. Hers. What a laugh. Wake up Keeli!

Everyone noticed him - man and woman alike. She saw it on elevator rides and when he traversed the lobby. Yes, he was particularly tall, a few inches over six feet. However, it was more than his height that drew the eye. He was compelling, confident, and assured. He was beyond handsome with his chiseled features, thick wavy hair and well-muscled body clad in custom suits. Keeli was drawn to him like a bee to honey. She had seen other women catch his eye, seen them smile and flirt easily. She was overwhelmingly shy when near him, preventing her from ever making him ‘hers’.

They crossed paths at the coffee kiosk or in the elevator at least once a week. She knew she was projecting her own desires, but sometimes it seemed to her that he was seeking her out. Even so, Keeli never exchanged more than a polite “hello” and he was always polite, but aloof. Although she longed for some reason to speak more than pleasantries, she was unable to move past that invisible barrier she felt between them.

Why, oh why is facing forward considered appropriate elevator etiquette? I just want to stare at him one last time. Today needs to be the day to think of something to say, some witty conversation opener. You are running out of time.

Her brain searched now for a reason to speak, knowing it was her last chance. Instead, she reluctantly turned to face the doors. He was standing so close, lazily leaning his shoulders against the back wall. She felt the warmth of his breath on the back of her neck, goosebumps traveling up her arms in response to the moist heat. She was rocked by her immediate, erotic reaction.

Reigning in her body’s response, Keeli reminded herself that the warm breath was a result of proximity, not desire. She was a non-entity to him and had been for the16 months she had worked there. His polished appearance, custom suits and elegant leather briefcase contrasted with her wild red hair, shabby jacket, scuffed boots and faded Old Navy dress. He epitomized class and privilege; she embodied shabby chic. Maybe not even chic - just shabby. She could never bridge the gulf.

Five Things About MYSTIC MAPLES by Tena Stetler

Tena Stetler joins me today with a new release, MYSTIC MAPLES, part of the Deerbourne Inn series from The Wild Rose Press. Tena Stetler brings her love of the paranormal to the small Vermont town of Willow Springs. Let's find out a few things about MYSTIC MAPLES. Take it away, Tena!

Five Things you need to know about Mystic Maples and The Deerbourne Inn Series:

1. Mystic Maples – This story is named after Gypsy/Fae Silvanus Forrest's Sugar Maple grove at the edge of Willow Springs and has been in his family since the late 1750’s. The land is rumored to be enchanted.

2. Earth/Fire Witch Mercy Rose has lost the connect to her magic. She hopes a little R&R at The Deerbourne Inn is the answer, but when a handsome man and his dog enter her life things will never be the same.

3. The Deerbourne Inn series is set in a small fictional Vermont town, Willow Springs where anything can and does happen.

4. Thanksgiving spent with Mercy’s family in Colorado bring to a head simmering adolescent witch and magic problems.

5. Mystic Maples is a fun, feel good adventure of family, flowers, love, magic, and ghosts that you don’t want to miss.

Blurb:

Earth/Fire witch Mercy Rose's insatiable curiosity always gets her in trouble. After a break-in at her Colorado flower shop, and a court battle that comes to a screeching halt in her favor, she arrives at Deerbourne Inn for a much-needed getaway. Looking for peace and quiet, she finds just the opposite in a startling handsome but mysterious man and his dog.

Silvanus Forrest's gypsy/fae heritage is a double-edged sword. The land he inherited from his parents is rumored to be enchanted. But when Mercy discovers the truth, his well-ordered life unravels, and they're catapulted into the past to right a wrong. Along the way their lives intertwine, and they discover the true meaning of family and love. Will they change the past in time to save their future?

Excerpt:

In the middle of the vardo an old weathered chest was completely out of place. She leaned over.

“Don’t touch that,” he barked. It was too late.

Her fingers stroked the rusted padlock. It sprang open. Puffs of dried soil sprinkled the carpet around the chest. He placed a restraining hand on her arm just as she tentatively dug her fingers into the soil.
“This isn’t from your land. It’s—.” A swirl of colors sucked them in and a feeling of weightlessness surrounded her. She grabbed hold of Sil’s arm. The dog yipped. Then suddenly they were back inside the wagon.

Only something was amiss, the silence, the earthy smell wasn’t right. She shivered. What have I done? Taking a deep breath, she whirled around to face Sil.

“What the hell just happened?”

He shrugged. “You promised not to touch a thing. Let’s get out of here.” Reaching for the vardo’s handle, he pushed down, and the door opened into a small barn. He strode to the door, tugging Mercy along with him. When he shoved it open moonlight spread across an open field casting silvery shadows through the bordering trees. Off in the distance stood a ramshackle cabin.

A warm breeze swept her hair across her face. She stared unblinking. Nothing about the landscape was familiar except the stands of young trees. She bent as if to touch the soil.

His arm flew out and prevented her from reaching the ground. “It’s true,” he murmured surveying the area. His lips set in a thin line, he rubbed his temples, and stared. Mocking her. “I won’t touch a thing. Well… you did and now…”

“Now what?” she whispered.

A FOUNDATION OF FEAR by Kim McMahill

Kim McMahill is joining me today with a look at her newest release, A FOUNDATION OF FEAR, book 3 in the Risky Research Series. Check out her list of five things to know about her series. Take it away, Kim!

5 things readers should know about the Risky Research Series

1. The third and newest novel in the Risky Research Series, A Foundation of Fear, has just been released and is available for download.

2. The common thread in the novels revolves around a deadly organization out to control the diet product industry, and the persistent FBI agent who will risk everything to stop them.

3. The diet product industry in the U.S. is worth 40-100 billion dollars a year (definitely a sum worth killing for).

4. The main recurring antagonist has allowed over-ambition, anger, and the desire for revenge to lead her down a dangerous path, but has one weakness that may prove her downfall.

5. A Dose of Danger is the first novel in the series and A Taste of Tragedy is the second. For a little backstory to understand what makes our FBI agent into the woman she is, A Formidable Foe (prequel novelette), is free to download from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q9YFTLH).

BLURB:

FBI Special Agent Devyn Nash is obsessed with taking down Coterie, a deadly group out to control the multi-billion-dollar diet product industry. The FBI’s plan to expose Coterie places Devyn’s best friend and her partner’s fiancĂ© in the crosshairs of this ruthless organization. Can Devyn protect her friend and bring the coldblooded killers to justice before they strike again while distracted by injury, a sexist bully, and a long-distance relationship with a handsome Wyoming sheriff?

Lobbyist and Coterie assassin Sofia Wilks wants nothing more than to regain control of her life. Sofia knows Agent Nash is nipping at her heels, but the FBI agent isn’t the worst of her fears. She is drawn to a man who has the power to destroy her.

EXCERPT:

Easing herself up from the sofa, Devyn shuffled into the kitchen, opened the freezer, and pulled out a pint of half-eaten chocolate peanut butter swirl ice cream. She grabbed a spoon and dug in as she leaned back against the kitchen counter, savoring each delicious bite.

She had nearly made it to the bottom when the phone rang. She groaned and thought about letting it ring, but if it was Gage, he was definitely worth an interruption in her ice cream eating.

“Hello.”

“What are you up to?” His deep voice eased over her like a warm caress.

She smiled and placed the ice cream carton in the kitchen sink.

“I’d love to relay something exciting or noteworthy, but the truth of the matter is that I’m standing here in my kitchen eating ice cream out of the container. What are you doing?”

He laughed. The sound made her weak in the knees. She didn’t know why he had that effect on her, but she finally decided to quit fighting it and enjoy exploring new territory.

“I’m sitting here on the front porch swing, drinking a beer, watching a beautiful Wyoming sunset sink toward the horizon and thinking the only thing in the world that could make it better was if you were here to share it with me.”

Devyn couldn’t speak. She was used to the way Gardner talked to her at work and the rude and insulting comments from the criminals she busted, but Gage was the first man to ever say kind and romantic things to her.

“You still there?”

“Yes. I was just trying to decide if you’ve had too many beers, because that’s the sweetest thing any man has ever said to me.”

#NewRelease and #Review: THE FLIP by Linda Palmer

I had the opportunity to read an advance copy of Linda Palmer's THE FLIP, book 6 in The Psy Squad series. The series is about a group of young psychics at the World Security League who use their powers to solve crimes. I had a blast reading the book. Take a look at my review below the excerpt. THE FLIP releases May 17, 2019, but you can pre-order your copy at Amazon right now.

Blurb:

Needing a change, Emily has moved, found a new job, changed hair color, lost weight, and dropped her first name. In short, she has flipped her entire life, except for one pesky thing--she can’t seem to stop reading minds.

Excerpt:

I was maybe halfway home when a dark Tahoe behind me caught up and slowed, its powerful engine growling. I used retying my shoe laces, as an excuse glance back surreptitiously. The SUV had stopped, too. My heart rate kicked up a notch as I stood up. I began walking again and a little faster.

“Jai Storey!”

I turned and saw that the window on the front passenger side had been lowered. Had someone from work seen me walking home? The SUV eased forward until it was even with me. The dome light flooded the interior. Detective Rossi in an unmarked patrol vehicle.

“Where’re you headed?”

“Home.” I pointed in the general direction of my apartment building.

“It’s about to rain. Get in.”

Resenting his tone, I kept walking.

Detective Rossi put the Tahoe into motion and kept pace with me. Although there wasn’t a soul around to see, my face flushed with embarrassment. Realizing this was a battle I couldn’t win--he had the badge, not me--I abruptly stepped over the grass to the curb and tried the front passenger door.

“Back’s unlocked.”

“Not happening.” I waited. He unlocked. I got in.

“Where do you live?”

“Kirkland Apartments. Why are you stalking me?”

“That’s a serious allegation, Ms. Storey.” He put the Tahoe in motion.

“And what else would you call it?”

“Coincidence. I work this part of town.”

Baffled by this whole encounter, I didn’t speak again until we got close to my apartment building.
“Anywhere along here is fine.”

He braked. “Doing anything Sunday night?”

“Working. Evening shift.”

“Where?”

I told him.

“What time do you get off?”

“Why? Are you planning to stalk me again?”

“Maybe.”

My Review:

I loved this story! This latest installment in the Psy Squad series from Linda Palmer is a definite winner.

After a bad experience at her job with the World Security League that left her feeling betrayed, psychic Emily Jai Storey decides it’s time to flip her life. New job, new city, new life. And a whole new her. She loses weight, dyes her hair, even begins using her middle name. But her main flip is a change in attitude. Emily Storey may have been something of a doormat, but Jai Storey will not be.

And most of all Jai Storey will not be psychic, because her psychic abilities have often brought her unhappiness. Unfortunately, that proves harder than she expected.

When Jai meets Detective Sebastian “Bastian” Rossi, neither of them is prepared for the strong and immediate feelings they have for each other. But a serial killer is on the loose. Bastian and Jai must work together, along with her psychic friends, to end the killer’s reign of terror. But can they catch him before he kills again? And will Jai realize that Emily and her psychic abilities are a part of her that no amount of flipping can erase?

I loved that the story was told in first person in Jai’s voice, which is a combination of snark and vulnerability. Though we never get inside Bastian’s thoughts, we always know exactly what he’s thinking and exactly how he feels about Jai/Emily.

With Jai’s age of twenty-one, I would classify this novella as a new adult romance. Jai/Emily is definitely trying to find herself and where she fits in the world. The author did a great job of showing her growth and her acceptance of who she is. No flip necessary.

I would definitely recommend this book, and it’s made me excited to read the other five books in the Psy Squad series.

#NewRelease from Karyn Good: GONE

My friend Karyn Good stops by with a look at GONE, book 3 in her Aspen Lake series, which just released yesterday. She's talking about how much a character's clothes, especially their shoes, say about them. I've read the first two books in the series and I can't wait to read GONE. Welcome Karyn!

Who could forget Scarlett o’Hara’s famous curtain dress in Gone With The Wind? Or Holly Golightly’s little black dress in Breakfast At Tiffany’s? Then there is the air from the subway grate lifting Marilyn Monroe’s white dress in the famous scene from The Seven Year Itch? How about Elle Wood’s non-tradition courtroom outfits in Legally Blonde? And of course there’s James Bond’s tuxedo.

But my favourite character clothing transformation has to be Vivian Ward in Pretty Woman. From her infamous cobalt blue cut-out dress and patent over-the-knee black patent boots to her post-Rodeo Drive shopping spree looks (the red velvet evening gown, the polka dotted derby dress) to the jeans and blazer she ultimately left the hotel for the last time in all reveal her character’s arc.

The clothes your characters wear are a tool used to help tell their story. Their clothing choices give us insight into their personality. In GONE, Grace Bighill’s clothing choices detail her character’s arc. At the beginning of the story, she’s feeling overwhelmed, she’s tired, and her wardrobe reflects her state of mind. But as the story progresses and she faces some hard truths, she begins to experiment and to take more time for herself. A clean t-shirt, a swipe of lip-gloss, the purchase of a new sweater are details that can say a lot without having to say anything at all.

In my Aspen Lake Series I had a lot of fun with shoes, from Lily’s summer breeze sandals, to Kate’s preference for stilettos, to Grace’s worn sneakers. If the heroes and heroines of my books are going to go toe-to-toe with each other, what’s on their feet matters, because details matter. And, okay, I admit it. I have a thing for shoes.

If you have a favourite best-dressed character from a book, movie, or TV show, I want to know who it is!

Blurb, GONE:

Ever since a devastating family tragedy seventeen years ago, Grace Bighill has struggled to keep her remaining family from falling apart. Then the discovery of her mother's body in the woods unearths a connection to a decades old murder case, and Grace is dragged into a politician's bitter bid for revenge.

Constable Mike Davenport's days in Aspen Lake are numbered. He's ready to take his next step up the career ladder somewhere a lot more cosmopolitan. He's avoided any emotional attachments, despite having fallen hard for a certain stubborn local. But when a body turns up, Mike's careful intentions collapse in the face of Grace's grief and her exhaustive efforts to care for her family.

A search for answers leads Grace and Mike down a twisted path proving no one can escape their roots. But someone might die trying.

Excerpt:

The music still played but no one listened. They were too busy trying to talk at once.

Mike settled in beside her and his disapproving green eyes scanned her face. He lifted the cloth covering her knee and winced. “You okay?”

Grace flinched as his fingers did a gentle probe. “Welcome to the party.”

“Seems we were a little late getting our invitation.” His expression turned serious. “This may need medical attention.”

“It’s just a scratch.” She tamped down the gooey need threatening to overtake her. Tried to remember it didn’t pay to get sentimental over this particular man.

Her reassurance didn’t stop him from carefully dabbing at her cut. Or from leaning in to get a closer look. “I don’t see any glass, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any in there.”

“I’m fine.” She braced her hands on the floor ready to lift herself up, having had enough attention and being at the center of it.

Mike put his hand on her shoulder and coaxed her back down. “There’s no rush. Take a moment.”

She warmed under his touch and the tender concern she’d secretly, and not so secretly, yearned for since he’d arrived in Aspen Lake two years ago.

Character Interview: Dylan from LYRICAL EMBRACE by Amber Daulton

Amber Daulton makes a return visit to Journeys with Jana with an interview of her hero Dylan Haynes from LYRICAL EMBRACE. This novella is part of the Deerbourne Inn series from The Wild Rose Press. Enjoy!

Character Interview with Dylan Haynes from Lyrical Embrace

Where are you from?

There’s only one place I call home, and that’s Willow Springs, Vermont. I’ve lived there all my life, except for the five years I spent in New York City drumming for an indie rock band, Fortune’s Glory. Only about three thousand people live and work in Willow Springs, but tourists come from all over the world in the winter to ski and snowboard in the Green Mountain National Forest. During the summer, the Fourth of July festival draws in a big crowd. Even though I love New York, it doesn’t compare to my hometown.

Tell us about your story, Lyrical Embrace.

It’s about making mistakes, learning from them, and moving on with your life.

You see, I lost myself to the partying lifestyle after I joined Fortune’s Glory a few years ago. I eventually wised up, quit the band, and moved back home.

I grew up around music, so it’s a big part of my life, but I didn’t realize what I truly needed until I met Erica. Her car had broken down in the middle of a rainstorm, and I stopped to help her out. I could tell right away she would be nothing but trouble for me, but hell, I couldn’t just leave her out there in the cold. Turns out, she was a big fan of my band. We connected over music and hard times, but trouble was brewing, and I didn’t realize it until everything almost crashed down around me.

What did you think the first time you saw Erica.

She was soaking wet and bending over the engine of her car, so I didn’t see how pretty she was at first. I only saw a woman in need of help, so that’s all I cared about.

What was your second thought?

I really wanted to get out of the damn rain. Erica was just standing there, asking me questions, and half-accusing me of being a psycho killer ready to stuff her in the trunk of my car. The rain was pouring in thick, white sheets, and I was doing my best to keep calm and not freak her out even more than she already was.

What impression do you usually make when you first meet someone?

I like to think of myself as a normal guy, and I hope I portray that to the people I meet. Fortune’s Glory never made it big back in the day, so I’m usually not recognizable to anyone outside the New York music scene. I’m grateful for that.

What is your profession?

I’m an ex-professional drummer, and now I’m an instructor at Haynes Music Academy, my parents’ music school. I play a multitude of instruments, but I usually just teach kids how to rock the drums.
I’m also a volunteer fireman. After so many years of partying and acting wild, I wanted to do something good and give back to the community where I’d come from. Being a fireman and a certified EMT helped me accomplish that goal.

What is your greatest fear?

I’d say it’s the same fear everyone has. Losing the person you love. Erica has been through a tough time, and I love her like crazy. Even though she covered her tracks damn well after she escaped her violent ex-boyfriend, the man still found her and threatened to kill her. Hell, he nearly killed me. God, I don’t even like thinking about any of that. If I lost Erica, I don’t know what I’d do.

What do you like most about Erica?

*Dylan snorts* What do I not like? Erica is perfect for me. She’s strong, beautiful, and stubborn, but vulnerable too. She’s an excellent violinist and loves music just as much as I do. She went through hell with her last boyfriend, but she’s still kind and willing to put her heart on the line. Her strength and her desire to never give up is definitely a turn-on, and I’m damn glad she picked me. I couldn’t be prouder of her.

How would Erica describe you?

That’s a whammy of a question. Back when I was still drumming for Fortune’s Glory, Erica attended the concerts at the clubs and crushed hard on me, but I didn’t even know she existed. I just never saw her in the crowd of screaming, dancing fans and skimpily dressed groupies. I was nothing but an arrogant, sexist prick back then, and Erica knew it. After I stopped drinking and left the band, I headed back home to straighten out my life. Then Erica and I finally met. It was like kismet. I’m not proud of the way I acted before, but I’ve since proved to Erica I’m a sober, one-woman man.
Today, I think she would describe me as levelheaded and giving. That’s the man I want to be. Hopefully, I’ve succeeded.

What is the best piece of advice you ever received?

My older brother, Birley, once told me I can’t change the past and that I have to move on from my mistakes. He’s right. The past is just that—the past. The man I am today is the one I choose to be. The life I want is the one I strive for everyday. And I gotta say, I’m pretty happy with the way things turned out.

Blurb:

Out-of-work violinist Erica Timberly decides enough is enough. She leaves her abusive boyfriend and flees the big city, but then her car breaks down in the middle of the night. Though wary of men, she accepts help from Dylan Haynes, a stranger driving by on the road, and soon recognizes him as the sexy former drummer of her favorite indie rock band. Maybe, just maybe, her run of bad luck is finally turning around.

Music teacher Dylan Haynes knows Erica is in trouble, and her black eye is only the first clue. The stubborn yet vulnerable woman needs a friend, but he’s determined to give her everything she deserves.

Will Erica listen to the music in her heart and trust Dylan, or will her past always threaten her future?

Excerpt:

Erica checked her watch. “It’s almost nine o’clock. What do you want to do now?”

“I have something in mind, but I’d like to surprise you.”

“Ooooh, interesting.” She braced her elbows on the table, weaving her fingers together, and braced her chin on her linked hands. “The movie theater in Montpelier?”

“Nah, it’s too late to go there tonight. The back-to-back movie marathons will have already started by now.”

“You’ve piqued my interest. C’mon, let’s go.” Erica handled the check, to Dylan’s irritation—she asked him to dinner, after all—but he took care of the tip.

After they left the tavern, Dylan pulled her close and circled his strong arms around her waist. Heat radiated from his body as he kissed her in the parking lot.

The shock of his lips on hers stilled Erica’s heart, but then the organ jump-started like an engine. Erica kissed back, desperate to taste him, and she savored the hint of spice on his tongue. She moaned and gripped the soft fabric of his shirt, almost ready to tear his clothes off.
