For a Writer: Finding Time to Write Is Critical
By Anna Lores
If you’re an author, there are a lot of things that you do to promote yourself and the books you write. From marketing to social media to all the logistical aspects of running a small business. But the most important thing you need to do is write. A lot. And to do that, you need time.
But what if you have another job, or kids, or other responsibilities? Time is one thing we can’t make more of, and in general, time is hard to manage. You try to find time to write, but also time for a spouse/significant other, kids, school activities, dogs, meal prepping, laundry and more laundry. I’m a mom of three teens, so the laundry hamper is forever full at my house. Finding those precious hours to write is a challenge for anyone, even when it’s your full-time job.
So, here’s what I do. I set my hours that I write/research/market during the week day while the kids are at school. Then I set evening and weekend hours for my writing around helping the kids with homework and activities, and my husband’s hectic work schedule. My husband and kids are my VIP’s, so they always come first. But, with a quality schedule managing my time, I get to have the best of both worlds—time for my family and my work. It takes planning, priorities and discipline, but it is possible.
My latest book, Ella’s Triple Pleasure, was mostly written while waiting for my children to finish math, music, sports or dance lessons. Or sitting in a car line. Ten minutes here. An hour there. It’s amazing how those small numbers add up.
And as one final consideration of the scheduling process, make sure to set aside time for yourself. Read some of those books on your TBR list. Get that massage. Take a girls’/guys’ night out. The happier you are, the better your writing will be, not to mention the better your quality of life will be, as well.

It takes three men to satisfy one woman’s needs…
Single mom and massage therapist Ella Winthrop isn’t looking for a relationship. She has enough problems without risking a business that barely meets her needs. Then her world is turned upside down by three men, each offering something she isn’t prepared for—love so deep it hurts, sex so hot she’s afraid she’ll melt from the pleasure, and a future beyond her wildest dreams.
Steamy businessman Cade Jackson has it all—money, looks, a giving heart, and a dominant nature—but Ella refuses to date a client even if she’s lusted after him for a year. After his
brother’s death, Garrett Winthrop moves back to town opening old wounds and even darker fantasies. Dr. Derek McGregor gives her balance and understanding that speaks to her soul. All three men force Ella to question the limits of a traditional relationship.
Excerpt:
A cold breeze swept over them, cooling off skin drenched with the heat of lust. No woman had ever affected him so intensely. No woman had ever refused to date him. No woman but beautiful and sweet Ella Winthrop.
She shivered.
“Are you cold?” He stopped in the darkness of the forest. He should have thought about the cool nights here and brought dinner up to the main house. He needed to be more considerate. “I can give you my shirt.”
He let go of her hand and lifted his tee. He was boiling walking next to her. He was more than eager to take off his shirt or anything else he could get off for that matter. He wanted to be naked between the bed sheets, or up against a tree, or in the grass, or hell, anywhere he could get her into a compromising position. But he had rules for a lasting relationship. Take things slow.
“No, no.” She shivered again. A pink blush filled her cheeks. “I’m not cold.”
She reached for the hem of his dark T-shirt halfway up his chest, but her warm hands touched his bare abs. She told the truth. She wasn’t cold. Maybe her reluctance in the car was because she wanted him as much as he wanted her.
He breathed in and slowly exhaled as her hand glided down to the waistband of his jeans. Please, a little farther. Unbutton them. Make the first, big move. Show me you want me so I can take over.
He tightened his abs, showing off the top and middle of his eight-pack.
She shivered again. Her breathing turned shallow. She stepped closer, and he swore she made a soft, moaning sound like she had in the car. He wanted to hear her moaning under him so badly he could barely think straight.
He sucked in his abs, wishing he had worn loose-fitting jeans, so she could slip her hand down and touch his… The magical hands that massaged his body every week would be on the places he fantasized about having them.
Her fingers lingered near the top button of his jeans.
He waited. His eyelids drooped. Please, do it. Do it, Ella.
Author Bio:
Anna Lores started writing romance as a by-product of insomnia. After a year of late-night reading, she borrowed her son's laptop after he went to bed and set about breathing life to her very own characters. After a month, she was surprised with a new laptop to pursue her dreams.
With a B.A. in English Literature and a desire to fill her world with wonderful stories she and her close friends could not just talk about but gush over, Anna shed the job as mom of three in the late night hours and assumed her alter ego of Dirty Girl.
Now, Anna is a multi-published author of contemporary and paranormal erotic romance.
